Journaling Prompts

Independent Woman: What does independence mean to you, particularly as a woman? Do you feel dependent on the men in your life, or healthily interdependent? Did you learn to be independent, or not, from your parents' relationship? Have your relationships with the men in your life changed, and why?

All the single ladies: If you're unattached now, how important is it for you to find a mate? Are you comfortable being alone? What things in your life do you believe would fundamentally change with a partner? If you're married or in a relationship, is there anything you miss about being single? What are the best and worst things about being in a couple. Do you ever set up your friends, or have you been on the receiving end of a setup?

Liberation: How did the Women's Lib movement impact your life if at all? Did you live through those times, or did you come to explore feminism later? Do you think of yourself as a feminist or not? What strides have women working for Women's rights made that change your life today...voting...'equal pay'...the breaking of glass ceilings?

Uniqueness and individuality: What makes you unique? Are you proud of what makes you different, or is it a source of shame for you? Were you ever teased or mocked because of something that makes you 'different'? Did those experiences make you more stronger and more independent or proud of your uniqueness? Is there such a thing as weird?

Money: Are you self-supporting? Do you struggle with your financial condition? How has your relationship with money changed over the years? Is there such a thing as 'enough' money? Does your income define who you are in any way, or your profession? Has anyone ever held you 'hostage' over finances, or has it been a dividing line in an intimate relationship.

Holding on or letting go: Is there now, or has there been any tension between holding on or letting go of something or someone? if you have children, how do you manage the balance between allowing them to fly free and keeping them safe? What, if anything, do you cling to to feel secure? Does this reflect your level of personal independence? How might you let go to feel more free?

I am grateful that I can depend on the many wonderful women and men in my life who help me be more and more myself...even when I make it really hard on them (talking to you, ML)! And I am proud of my ability to learn from their strength and support to be INDEPENDENT and take more chances...so that I can, in the end, depend on myself. It's a beautiful system.

So tell me, on WHOM can you depend?

Layout Inspiration: What makes you feel your INDEPENDENCE?

Check out how loving yourself as you are, standing for something, living free and embracing the little girl you who was independent makes our DT happy! What makes you feel independent?

I was a fierce little girl...no one could tell me what to do. Being that independent has its pros and cons...you get treated like an adult way too soon, but you also develop strengths you'll need for sure later on.

As a teen, I was president of the student council...in college, I ran our campus Women's Center. I've always loved feeling my power as a woman to help others be strong.

So, what makes you feel independent?

Lay It Out! Money, Money, Money, Muh-ney!

Hi Friends!

I gave you a few tidbits of inspiration the last time I visited, now let's give you a boost into creating your own layout about Independence.  Hmmmm... let's focus on money and independence.

Money: Are you self-supporting? Do you struggle with your financial condition? How has your relationship with money changed over the years? Is there such a thing as 'enough' money? Does your income define who you are in any way, or your profession? Has anyone ever held you 'hostage' over finances, or has it been a dividing line in an intimate relationship?

That should get your journaling and creative juices flowing.  But I just can't leave without a little more inspiration. How about this quote?

"Every woman should have a purse of her own."  ~ Susan B. Anthony

Okay, so let's get to it.  Give it a try!  Create a LO about your relationship to money and then head on over to Inside Out and share it with us in your own personal gallery.  Or, blog about it and link us up here.

Oh, and one more thing... try a design twist.  Try using a pocket or purse image or design in some way to illuminate your point...

That's it from me for today.  Ready?  Set.... Go!

Let's Celebrate Independence!

Hi Friends!

I have to tell you, I've really been spending some time browsing around the new topic over at Inside Out: Independence.  What amazing stuff I'm seeing over there!  Want a taste? I thought you'd never ask.  Let me share a little bit with you...

Check out this layout by Jaime Long:

Don't those paper pieced hearts make your heart go all pitter patter?

But wait!  There's more!  Of course, we have a lot of amazing inspiration to help YOU out when you're creating your own Independence layouts.  Here's a taste of that as well:

"The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence."
~ Denis Waitley

"In the progress of personality, first comes a declaration of independence, then a recognition of interdependence."
~ Henry Van Dyke
One of those quotes could surely get you started on a layout about independence in your world!  Don't think that's enough?

Well....one thing we say at Inside Out, if you don't have the perfect self-portrait for your layout, pick a stock photo!  What could you do with one of these?

And music always inspires me... how about you?  Well, we've got that over on our Inspiration page too.  Y'know what?  Let me share a song I grew up with. Yeah, I'm dating myself, but if you listen to it, it's a very empowering song and just screams INDEPENDENCE!

Well, I hope that has inspired you to get started on your own layout.  Not enough yet?  Well... check out our Inspiration page or the Design Team Gallery for more inspiration.  Or, you can wait for me to come back and give you another boost with more inspiration or a challenge. Or, chat it up in the comments so I can see what your inspiration is.  Because... I will be back.

But you know that already...
