Journaling Prompts

Action: Some might say that the antithesis to waiting is action. What experiences have you had in your life that demonstrate waiting for an outcome vs. taking decisive action toward your goals? Are there certain areas where you are more adept, or comfortable, at taking action? Is it more comfortable for you to take action with regard to your own needs, or when caring for others, be it children, your spouse, or about a cause that matters to you.

Interest, Excitement and Joy: Psychologists sometimes refer to a cycle of interest, excitement and joy that we might interrupt because of past disappointments. Have you been in the position of cutting off your own sense of excitement or anticipation because you’d rather not be let down if things don’t work out? Do you ever put a damper on someone else’s excitement so they won’t get too hyped up or sad if things don’t go their way?

Was it What You Expected/Hoped For? :When you’ve anticipated an outcome in the past, was it all you hoped it would be? What are your greatest and most happy memories of anticipation and elation? What have you anticipated and not been as excited about when it finally came to pass? Did you ever anticipate a negative outcome and end up surprised at the good news that came your way?

Intuition: Do you believe in woman’s intuition? Have you ever felt that you could anticipate something before it came to be? Is there something magical in certain circumstances about what you feel just before something amazing, frightening or new happens? Has someone else ever had a premonition about you, and did it come to pass? Was it scary? Would you rather know about someone else’s intuition about you, or do you want to be free to make your own mistakes or successes?

What's Coming Next/What Are You Waiting For?: What are the most important things you’re waiting for? Are they in the area of family, love, work or something else? What thoughts of your future fill your tummy with butterflies of excitement? Do you like to talk about what you’re waiting for, or keep your dreams and wishes close to the vest? Do you think talking about the future and what you’re anticipating helps amp up the future or diminish the power of it?

Worry: Sometimes we anticipate the worst. Even the most positive among us, in our humanness, worries about the future…will our families be OK? Will the future look the way we want? Will our dreams and wishes come true? What do you worry about most? When do you worry…at night, before you fall asleep, or at random times? Is there a certain stream of thoughts that bring you to a worried state? How do you pull yourself out of worry?

Quotes

She used to drag her mattress beside her low window and lie awake for a long while, vibrating with excitement, as a machine vibrates from speed. Life rushed in upon her through that window - or so it seemed. In reality, of course, life rushes from within, not from without. Must See Video - What Moves You?

Many of you know I am a HUGE James Taylor fan.

Want some proof?

Hidden Journaling:

There’s a kind of joy that I feel when I look at James in this photo or listen to his music that isn’t the kind of joy that makes you jump up and down. It’s the kind of joy that bubbles up slowly from somewhere deep inside.

I think that it’s because his whole energy is one of quiet…a peacefulness that radiates out from him thorough his voice and his persona.

I remember reading an interview once where has was asked about whether he was actually as calm inside as other people’s view of him. He said that he struggles with depression and ‘free-floating anxiety’ still to this day, but that the difference now is that when he has down moments, he knows that it is only temporary. That really spoke to me – that he can accept himself where he is and ride the wave of emotion, looking at it and not reacting to it. Just watching it go by and knowing that he will soon feel better.

I didn’t love the most recent CD (Covers) – I liked a few songs, but for the most part it fell flat for me because he was singing other people’s music. I love when he performs his own music – it feels like he is speaking directly from his heart to my heart. I think that’s his true gift – his ability to express his own unique, deepest emotions through his craft. And isn’t that what we’re all trying to do? Isn’t that what I’m trying to do right here and now?

The look of peaceful contentment and happiness on his face in this photo inspires me.

I look at it and I imagine all the dreams I have for my future in that box. And the look on his face says, ‘here they are, your gifts…all you have to do is unwrap them.’

I’m all for the ‘whoopie’ kind of joy.

But this joy is different...lasting, meaningful, deep and rich.

That’s the joy I truly seek.

What are the deeper reasons you love what you love? What touches you, what moves your spirit? Have you considered scrapbooking about it? Not just capturing what you love, but WHY you love it? Scrapbooking from the Inside Out provides all the tools, inspiration and support you'll need to truly understand what makes you tick.

Here's a great bootleg video (not mine!) of James and Carole King at the Hollywood Bowl concert I attended a few weeks ago. This brings me pure bliss and makes my eyes and heart swell with tears at the same time. It reminds me that I want every one of my LOs to do the same.

New Design Team at SFTIO - Updated!

EDITED: Due to a copy and paste error, I inadvertently left off one of our new DT members! So sorry! Make sure to check out Amy Oxford's blog below...and bookmark it! :)

I am so pleased and excited to announce the new Scrapbooking from the Inside Out DT starting with the July kit! This was an arduous process...we had so many incredible applications with much heart, soul, artistic quality and creative interest. Thank you to those of you who put yourselves on the line...I know from personal experience how very difficult it is, and I am so grateful that SFTIO means so much to you. Trust me that the worst part of the job that I love is saying no...and as a friend once told me at a very low moment in my life, the universe doesn't say no...it says 'not now.' Timing can be everything, and our dreams can come true if we're patient and open to the different forms that dreams realized can take...

At any rate, please join me in congratulating the new and continuing DT members for July-December 2010 under the most able leadership of the fantastic Nancy Doren:

Amy Oxford
Aymee Gandy
Arlene Camacho
Cristal (Pinky) Hobbs
Diana Kennedy
Felecia Krech
Melissa Elsner
Shaina Longstreet

I cannot wait to see what wonderful things they have in store for us and for you...and stay tuned to see what we at SFTIO have up our sleeves...heh heh!

Rita Barakat will be joining our management team as well as coordinator of a special and VERY exciting new program we're creating...more soon!

Good times...

Love,

Rachel

PS - have you seen out industry-exclusive Inspiration Page? Music, Photos, Prompts, Quotes and more to get your creativity and heart flowing.

In the meantime, why not come join us online and play along with our monthly challenges? Here are the first 2 for May. You've got all month to play, and no kit is necessary to join in on the fun. These challenges are the perfect way to get into the idea of visual journaling - refecting the theme of your LO with design ideas. This is what I believe takes your pages and turns them into expressive works of art.

May Challenge #1, Anticipation Interrupted/Off the Edge

Interest, Excitement and Joy: Psychologists sometimes refer to a cycle of interest, excitement and joy that we might interrupt because of past disappointments. Have you been in the position of cutting off your own sense of excitement or anticipation because you’d rather not be let down if things don’t work out? Do you ever put a damper on someone else’s excitement so they won’t get too hyped up or sad if things don’t go their way?

Please create a LO about an experience you've had at curtailing your own, or someone else's anticipation to lower expectations and maybe relieve pain if it doesn't work out...new boyfriend? Job opportunity?

For the design twist, please push something on your page off the edge to show how you cut off the cycle of interest, excitement and joy...

May Challenge #2, Intuition or Premonition/Sparkly

Intuition: Do you believe in woman’s intuition? Have you ever felt that you could anticipate something before it came to be? Is there something magical in certain circumstances about what you feel just before something amazing, frightening or new happens? Has someone else ever had a premonition about you, and did it come to pass? Was it scary? Would you rather know about someone else’s intuition about you, or do you want to be free to make your own mistakes or successes?

Please create a LO about an advance-feeling or intuition or premonition you've had.

For the design twist, please use something sparkly - light or dark - glitter, stickles, bling, to demonstrate the magical quality, good or bad, of the intuition.

More later!

Love,
Rachel
