If you'd still like to explore the amazing April topic, here's all you'll need to dig deep...our May kit launches in just a few hours!

Design Team Layouts

Journaling Prompts

Girlie Girl: As a child, did you love all the trappings of being a girl, or were you the more rough and tumble type? Was there pressure from family to be more or less feminine? What messages did you get as a child about femininity? If you had brothers, were you treated the same way as they were by both parents? Did your favorite toys reflect your gender, or were you more even-handed in your choices? Did your family allow you to play with toys that were ‘boy’ toys? How were you treated by boys in junior high or high school if you were a girlie girl, or not so much one? Were you more often a date or a pal?

Outside vs. Inside: Are you outwardly feminine in an obvious way? Do you see significant differences in the way women and men, or boys and girls, behave in single-gender groups vs. mixed gender groups? What do you think it means to ‘feel’ like a woman? How have male and female roles changed over the years, and has that been for the betterment of society or not, in your mind? Is there a synergy between how you feel inside and out about your own traditionally feminine vs. masculine traits?

Body Image: Throughout our lives, women are bombarded by messages about what we should look like, and the research shows that girls and young women are deeply affected by the images they see. How have these issues impacted you throughout your life? Are you happy, physically, with what you see in the mirror? Do you compare yourself to the images you see on TV, in movies, or in magazines? What different experiences do you think boys and men have about their outer physical image, and why do these differences exist?

Our Men: How have the men in your life impacted who you are today? What was your relationship with your dad, grandfather, brothers, and other men like in your youth and today, if it applies? How have those formative relationships impacted your relationship choices as an adult? Do you remember other men, like teachers, religious leaders, or coaches who had an important impact on you?

Motherhood: Are you a mother, or do you want to be? If not, why? How much do you think the act of bearing or raising a child is intimately entwined with your womanhood? What different and important roles do fathers play in the raising of children? If you are a mother, how do you balance this important choice and responsibility with other parts of your life, including your career or your marriage? If you’re a single or divorced mother, what special responsibilities do you hold, and how do you feel about them? How did your mother’s mothering style affect how you raise your children?

Aging and Beauty: In a culture obsessed with youth, how can we age gracefully? Do you believe the adage that men age better than women? Where do you think that idea came from? Do you think you’ll be more beautiful with age, or do you worry about how the world will perceive you as you get older? What is the relationship in your mind between aging and health? If you’ve been through menopause, how did it impact your perception of your femininity? If you haven’t approached that yet, does it sound scary or like freedom? What did you learn from your female elders – grandmothers, aunts, about being a woman, and aging?

More FEMININITY Challenges...Play to Win

Here are this month's remaining layout challenges on the subject of FEMININITY. Come on in and play! Just upload your LO in our gallery and you'll be eligible to win one of our monthly prizes. We're all about digging deep...want to explore your inner world? What are you waiting for? You don't need the kit to play...everyone is welcome!

Check out this post for the other three challenges for this month...

April Challenge #4, Motherhood/Small Items

Motherhood: Are you a mother, or do you want to be? If not, why? How much do you think the act of bearing or raising a child is intimately entwined with your womanhood? What different and important roles do fathers play in the raising of children? If you are a mother, how do you balance this important choice and responsibility with other parts of your life, including your career or your marriage? If you’re a single or divorced mother, what special responsibilities do you hold, and how do you feel about them? How did your mother’s mothering style affect how you raise your children?

For our next challenge, tell us about your thoughts about motherhood and if it is entwined with womanhood for you.

For the design twist, please use some tiny elements representing the little ones, present or not...

April Challenge #5, Men/Contrast

Our Men: How have the men in your life impacted who you are today? What was your relationship with your dad, grandfather, brothers, and other men like in your youth and today, if it applies? How have those formative relationships impacted your relationship choices as an adult? Do you remember other men, like teachers, religious leaders, or coaches who had an important impact on you?

As a woman, how do men play a role in your life? Do they help you define your femininity? Who are the men who have impacted you most?

For the design twist, please use contrast on your LO to demonstrate the differences between us...hard and soft, light and dark...

April Challenge #6, Synonyms/Word Cloud

Words float all around us like a cloud...positive, negative, names, epithets...they all have meaning.

Please create a LO about what word...woman, girl, gal, chick, describes you best, and why. Has that changed over time? Do any of those words offend you?

For the design twist, please use a 'word cloud' on your page...maybe a letter jumble (use up those extra alphas) and pop your word out!

April Challenge #7, FREESTYLE

What haven't we covered this month? Do you have a FEMININITY LO that's burning a hole in your brain? Show us and you could win this month's FREESTYLE category...

Femininity Kit Challenges

At SFTIO, our challenges will help you dig deeper on your LOs...and you don't have to be a member to play along - just come on by, sign up on the forum, and you can upload your interpretation for a chance to win! The biggest win, of course? Giving yourself the time, space and attention to scrapbook about your own heart.

Each of our challenges includes a design twist to get you using your right and left brain in exploring these topics. A great scrapbook page tells a story in words and design! And it feels SO good.

Here are the first three challenges for April. Entries are due by April 30 at Noon, Pacific Time (GMT-8:00).

April Challenge #1, Mirror Mirror/Mirror Image

Body Image: Throughout our lives, women are bombarded by messages about what we should look like, and the research shows that girls and young women are deeply affected by the images they see. How have these issues impacted you throughout your life? Are you happy, physically, with what you see in the mirror? Do you compare yourself to the images you see on TV, in movies, or in magazines? What different experiences do you think boys and men have about their outer physical image, and why do these differences exist?

What would you say to the mirror if you could talk back to it? What has it said to you about your outer self? For the design twist, please use a reflection of some sort - shadowing your title, a mirror image of an object...

April Challenge #2, Aging/Antique

Aging and Beauty: In a culture obsessed with youth, how can we age gracefully? Do you believe the adage that men age better than women? Where do you think that idea came from? Do you think you’ll be more beautiful with age, or do you worry about how the world will perceive you as you get older? What is the relationship in your mind between aging and health? If you’ve been through menopause, how did it impact your perception of your femininity? If you haven’t approached that yet, does it sound scary or like freedom? What did you learn from your female elders – grandmothers, aunts, about being a woman, and aging?

So much has been said and sung of beautiful young girls, why don't somebody wake up to the beauty of old women? Harriet Beecher Stowe

Please create a LO about your thoughts about aging. We've talked about writing to our past selves...how about our future ones? Or any other spin you like...

For the design twist, please antique something on your LO.

April Challenge #3, BFF/Connected

Women are in league with each other, a secret conspiracy of hearts and pheromones. Camille Paglia

Women friends are SO important in our development, our understanding of ourselves and our ability to handle life's hills and valleys.

Please create a LO about your best girlfriend, now or in the past. If she's currently your BFF, what do you love about your friendship? If she is from your past, what happened to change that relationship and what did you learn? For the design twist, please connect something visually to demonstrate your link to your BFF!

Let's see what you've got!

Love,

Rachel

SFTIO Design Team Call is ON!

Do you like to dig deeper on your scrapbook pages? Are you interested in exploring your inner world? Then you might be the designer for us! We are seeking talented designers who are passionate about scrapbooking and personal growth to share in this journey to add to our team!

Scrapbooking from the Inside Out is a monthly kit club, inspiration source and online community. We are holding a Design Team search. Inside Out is a different kind of kit club – it’s about a form of what we call ‘Scrapbook Therapy’ – using scrapbooking as a form of self-exploration, self-expression and self-discovery. Each kit is based on a specific emotion using color, design and iconography to reflect the theme. Our goal is to encourage the use of scrapbooking as a way for us to tap into our deep inner worlds in the midst of our very busy lives. We will be taking submissions from now through May 14, 2010.

As a member of our Design Team, you will be asked to:
1. create 5 layouts using 80% materials from our kit and relating to the theme of the month
2. contribute one monthly article for exclusive content (tips or techniques with step by step photos )
3. participate on our message boards at least 4 days per week
4. design for Inside Out for a 6-month term, beginning on June 1, 2010 (starting with the July 2010 Kit)
5. post your Inside Out layouts at scrapbook community sites
6. submit your LOs for publication as requested

All projects made with the kit are yours to keep, and when used in the newsletter or on the website, you will be given full credit.

Your compensation will be:
1. Free monthly kit with no shipping charge from July-December 2010.
2. Admission to CHA-Summer in Chicago, IL, 2010 (travel, hotel and other expenses not covered).
3. Recognition on our website with a link to your blog.
4. Incredible friendships, publishing opportunities and creative insight into your heart!

As a Design Team member, you will serve a critical role in promoting the kits and the website on message boards, the blog, and representing the company where ever you can. We ask that our designers not hold design team positions with any other kit club or online scrapbooking retailer. Manufacturer design team appointments and teaching at your LSS are fine.

To apply, please email the following to scrapbookdesign@aol.com (subject – Design Team):
1. photos of 4 layouts of any size. All 4 projects should be about your inner world – your thoughts, feelings, dreams, fears
2. links to your online gallery, blog and/or resume, if available
3. your full contact information: name, phone number, email address, and mailing address
4. a short paragraph or two about why you want to be one of our designers – why this concept matters to you
5. a list of your current scrapbooking commitments – other DT work, etc.

We’re a passionate and creative team looking for like-minded people who love to share their thoughts and feelings using our craft and foster a supportive and welcoming community. We look forward to getting to know you!
