So Proud

I had the good fortune of being able to celebrate with my 'sister' Barbara at her college graduation on May 29th. She is a very special person and a wonderfully devoted friend. I am so proud of her - and I hope she'll indulge me here - because she grew up thinking she wasn't college material. She could have thrown in the towel right there - but she perservered, scrimped and saved, and went to college of her own accord, as an adult, first part time and then full time. She struggled with statistics, evil professors (we've all had a few) and walks to the bus stop on icy cold winter nights.

It meant the world to me to be able to watch her walk down the aisle through the Queens College quad that morning. My walk across that same grass 18 years earlier flooded back as I saw her face, almost in awe, take it all in.

Be proud, my friend. You certainly deserve it.

And to all of you who think that maybe you can't do it, whatever your 'it' is - think again.

Congratulate your sister for me! I got my degree at 45! If I can do it, anyone can. How great of you to encourage others, too.
